Veterinary Surgeons

Mr. Julian Marcus MRCVS – Director

Having grown up in Stratford, I went to school locally, before qualfying from London University in 1984. I returned to Stratford in 1988, after spells in mixed practice in Bedford and Matlock to work in a local practice, where I soon became a partner. I opened The Ark in May 1992, with my future wife, and have been delighted to see it grow steadily to what we have today.
Though my managerie has shrunk, as my children have grown up, I still have dogs, cats, chickens and sheep of my own.
I continue to greatly enjoy treating all varieties of animals and pets all these years on.
My main pastimes usually revolve around sport and although rugby and cricket are not played any more, they are keenly watched on TV. I still try to be very competitive on the golf course and though ski-ing is proving a bridge to far these days following knee surgery, but never say never.
Sadly, my time is coming to an end soon with the call of golf course and the hope of being able to travel once more get louder. This Easter 2021, I shall be retiring after 37 wonderful years, leaving my colleagues below to carry the torch – looking after you all in the time honored Ark fashion.

Mr. Richard E. Lindsay MRCVS – Director

Originally from Ballymena in Northern Ireland, I have a strong agricultural background which developed my interest in a career as a veterinary surgeon.
I studied veterinary medicine at Glasgow University and qualified in 1990. I had a 3 year veterinary position in a mixed practice, near Glasgow, before joining The Ark as an assistant in 1993. I joined the partnership in May 1997.
I enjoy the wide variety of mixed practice but have a particular interest in soft tissue surgery with the smaller animals and routine herd health schemes on farm.
I have been blessed with five sons and my spare time is usually spent watching various sports.
Anything from rowing, rugby, football, cricket and trying to prevent my garden looking like a rugby pitch.
I also enjoy the occasional game of golf and am hoping to complete my first 10k race soon.

Miss. Rachel Fielden MRCVS – Assistant

After Graduating from Bristol Veterinary School in 2008, I came
to The Ark in February 2009. Having embarked upon my chosen career, I still greatly enjoy the wide variety of work I undertake, both with my companion animals and the farm animals.
I am an active hockey player at Stratford Hockey Club and have ridden through parts of Africa on my bicycle.  This was an eye opening experience I thoroughly enjoyed
I am so lucky to have Angus my 4yo springer
spaniel for company – he certainly keeps me fit – although probably never to be as fit as he is !
